On a cool, cloudy day with mixed winds 17 boats took the water for the May Day Pursuit racing. Must be a record ! Nine Lasers, 4 GPs, 2 Toppers and 2 Streakers joined in the fun for some competitive and enjoyable racing.
In the first race Simon Yeomans started off superbly, stayed ahead and won the Laser race comfortably. However in the second race, a poor start gave Ian Davies a chance to overtake and win the second race. With the wind falling to a zephyr the final race was abandoned . Ian Davies took the title on countback with Paul Powell in second place and Mike Dalziel in third spot.
In the GP14 race, Jonathan Websdel, sailing single-handed, managed to stay well ahead of the other GPs and won both races from Jo Jones and Norman Quarry to take the title. The Buddens and the Stouts completed the GP fleet.
The Menagerie class was composed of Matt and Toby in their Toppers and Mike and Linda sailing their Streakers.. Linda won both races, despite her jelly legs and took the Pursuit trophy.
Well done to all racers and officials. A good day’s work.
