Trimpley Sailing Club is a RYA Recognised Training Centre and offers structured beginner courses for both adults and juniors. These courses are designed to take you from a complete beginner to a confident sailor in a safe, friendly, and family-oriented environment.
Adult Training: National Sailing Scheme (Ages 16+)
Adult courses are typically held over two-day weekends (approximately 16 hours), providing a step-by-step introduction to the sport. Using our very stable double-handed boats, you will be accompanied by one of our qualified instructors to help you develop the key skills required.
- Level 1 Start Sailing: A relaxed introduction for complete beginners. You will learn the basic practical elements of sailing, including how to sail in all directions and awareness of launching and recovery.
- Level 2 Basic Skills: This course builds on Level 1, teaching you the essential skills to sail and make decisions independently.
- Key Benefits: Achieve both Levels to enable sailing at most RYA Affiliated Sailing Clubs.
Junior Training: Youth Sailing Scheme (Ages 816)
Junior courses run concurrently with the adult courses, and focus on developing confidence and camaraderie, independence and resilience, and other key life skills such as communication and teamwork, whilst having fun and making friends. We use single-handed youth boats (Toppers and Optimists) in small groups..
- Stage 1: Provides a basic understanding of how a boat sails, including rigging, launching, and handling.
- Stage 2: Focuses on developing a range of sailing skills and background knowledge to help youngsters become confident sailors.
- Personal Growth: Courses help develop a growth mindset, independence, teamwork, and communication skills.
